• Avoid blowing your nose for up to four weeks after surgery. When sneezing, do not pinch your nose shut. For at least four weeks post-surgery, refrain from flying on pressurized planes, scuba diving, lifting heavy objects with strain, blowing up balloons, playing wind instruments, or engaging in any activity that increases pressure in the nasal or oral cavities.
  • Take all prescribed medications as directed, including decongestants if needed.
  • Keeping your mouth clean after surgery is essential to prevent infection and promote faster healing. Begin rinsing with salt water (half a teaspoon of salt dissolved in an 8-ounce glass of water) the evening after surgery or the following day, doing so after each meal or four to five times daily.
  • Gently brush your teeth with a soft manual toothbrush starting the evening of your surgery or the day after, and continue to brush at least twice daily.
  • Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of fluids, and eat soft foods for the first few days after surgery. Gradually return to your regular diet as you feel comfortable, avoiding any chewing or pressure on the bone graft site. Refrain from drinking alcohol or smoking for one to two weeks following your procedure.
  • Any removable appliances, such as partial dentures, flippers, or full dentures, must be checked for proper fit before wearing them again.
  • Swelling and bruising are common. To minimize swelling, apply a cold compress to the area near the surgery site. If using an ice pack, always place a cloth between the ice and your skin to prevent direct contact. Apply the cold compress for up to 20 minutes on and at least 20 minutes off as needed.
  • If you experience persistent or severe sinus or nasal congestion, please inform us immediately.
